We moved home last December and began a series of improvements to our bungalow. The last job to be done was the resurfacing of our tarmac driveway. Brian came out, surveyed the driveway, made a number of suggestions for improvement and quoted a price. Not the cheapest quote received, but Brian was attentive and knowledgeable about what needed to be done. A date to commence work was agreed and his team arrived promptly to begin the work - such a cheerful sociable band of men who personified team work. Everything was explained to us and checked with us each day. The job was completed on time and looks fantastic. Our outside paths and driveway are transformed. We had been hesitating about having our driveway done because we knew that it was likely to be a difficult job. We live in an old house. The driveway was thick concrete, ages old and cracking in places. As well as having that removed and a new driveway laid, we wanted the small front garden to be re-modelled, some bushes removed and a new curving garden path laid with a decorative edging. Brian Blakely came, listened, made suggestions from his long experience and was frank about the possible difficulties his team might face. We talked it through and he quoted a price and date for commencement. We agreed on the terms. The job has just been finished and I am astonished at the difference it has made to the appearance of the house frontage. It is fully in keeping with the style of the area, yet clean and modern. The workmanship appears excellent. From beginning to end the work has been carried out seamlessly, without delays, with one procedure after another explained as the job progressed. The men who worked in the group seemed to get along very well and worked so quickly. I have to say that their lunch breaks were very short! Amazing energy! The job has been completed on time and at the agreed price. Nothing has been left unfinished. The team added little finishing touches - for example, some topsoil on the new, smaller, front lawn - because it looked as if it needed it. No additional charge; they said that they like to leave a job “looking right”. How rare is that these days! I read a comment from a satisfied customer - “You get what you pay for.” If customers are looking for a cut-price job, forget Blakely Contracts. If they are looking for a job done properly, by an experienced company with a good track record, at what seemed to me to be a very fair price, I would have no hesitation in recommending Brian Blakely. Robin Hewitt Belfast. We moved back to Northern Ireland after living overseas for 28 years, and after buying a house and a car, the next single expenditure was to have the driveways redone. I got three quotations from well established tarmac contractors. Brian Blakely was not the cheapest, but we decided to go with him for the following reasons: 1/ The first thing he did was to drive me round the area and show me work he had done. 2/ He did not try to run down his competitors. 3/ Was up front as to when the job could be done. 4/ Listened to what I wanted and explained what he thought was better and would be more cost efficient 5/ Agreed to a price. The work was started and finished within the time frame agreed, and there was a minimum of disruption to us. The guys who did the job could not have been better,they did not hang about, and in the week they were at the house not once did I hear any "bad" language, and they were most pleasant in answering any questions asked. As to the job itself, we are very pleased, It has transformed the appearance of the house. We have no reservations in recommending Brian Blakely and his workforce to anyone. Jim Kirkwood, Bangor Our drive was in need of an overhaul and I also wanted it widened; I received four quotes and Brian’s was joint middle when it came to price but I decided to go with him because I had seen examples of his work, liked the fact that he had a well established company with all his own heavy plant equipment and he provided sound advice and was realistic with regard to the expected start date. In addition, he only charged a very small deposit with no further payment expected until completion; this compared to a close competitor who required a full 30% up front and was going to sub-contract the Bitmac laying part of the job. Brian scheduled the job to take advantage of my retired neighbours prolonged absence, thus preventing them from having to endure the inevitable noise of diggers and pneumatic drills. The old drive was completely removed together with several tons of soil, so that a good solid layer of hardcore (sub-base) could be laid prior to the Bitmac. Having been present for the initial stages of the work, I was happy to go off on holiday, confident that the job would be completed as per my brief, during my absence. I found all of Brian’s workmen to be friendly, cooperative and polite and the Foreman communicated with me to ensure that the block paving, drainage and kerbstones were set to my liking. This was a major tarmacing job and I was worried about the possible disruption and the effect it might have had on the neighbourhood – I needn’t have worried. And what a great driveway. Very impressed with the standard of work and it's execution, work was done professionally and I was surprised how swiftly the job was progressed. I have a larger driveway area than the average size and while the job was not cheap you get what you pay for.
